Dickson Realtor Obtains Broker License To Maintain High Standards

DICKSON, TN., – In a housing market that everyday seems to bring both hardship and opportunity, those in the business of real estate seem to have little choice but to face the challenges head on.  Crye-Leike’s Michael L. Gilliland has clearly chosen the later as he recently obtained his Tennessee Broker license.

“This was the next logical step for me in an industry that requires high standards of performance, knowledge and ethics,” said Gilliland.  “Real estate laws and principles are continually changing and the professional real estate agent must be willing to continually pursue the educational opportunities that are readily available in order to keep up with this ever changing industry.”

The majority of licensed Realtors in Tennessee go their entire careers without an advanced Broker license – many with long and successful careers.  Gilliland doesn’t believe minimum standards are enough.

“I see current continuing education requirements as an opportunity to review, update and maintain a level of professionalism and performance that’s an absolute must in this industry,” said Gilliland.  “The professional real estate agent has an obligation to his or her client to provide the highest level of performance in the course of their relationship. Our clients and customers require it and deserve it.”

Before obtaining his Broker license Gilliland pursued continuing education to become an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) and is a Graduate of the REALTOR Institute (GRI).

“Continuing education courses are to me one of the best and most enjoyable ways of maintaining my currency in real estate matters,” said Gilliland. “The classroom environment allows exceptional opportunities for interaction with others and the opportunity to discuss different points of view and to ?pick the brain of the pro’ who is instructing the class.”

Considering the busy lives that many in the real estate professional lead, Gilliland points out that many Realtors have online courses, sales meetings, professional speaker opportunities and industry publications available to them to keep current.

“There are many ways for people in our business and most other professions to increase their base of knowledge,” said Gilliland. “The whole point is this? know your job and be professional.”
