SEARCY, AR.- Crye-Leike, REALTORS congratulates Broker Larry DeGroat upon his selection as the “2008 Realtor of the Year” by the Searcy Board of Realtors.  DeGroat is a Broker in the company’s Crye*Leike Real Estate Leaders, Inc. Franchise office located at 2305 West Beebe Capps Expressway in Searcy, Arkansas.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by your peers, the people you work shoulder to shoulder with every day, ” said DeGroat.  “I feel that I am a giver and not a taker and have always made myself available to serve in a leadership capacity to represent the Realtor profession.”

DeGroat was among three top Realtors, chosen by the full membership of the Searcy board, vying for the top annual honor.  The final choice came down to a smaller committee of members selecting a winner based on: Realtor Spirit, Civic Activity, Business Accomplishments and local, state and national Realtor board activity.

“I enjoy this business and like to see everyone else have fun doing it,” said DeGroat.  “As I have made mention many times, life is too short not to have fun and enjoy it.”

DeGroat currently serves as a Trustee for the Arkansas Realtors Political Action Committee (ARPAC), which allows him to stay abreast of the legislative issues affecting the real estate industry.  He has organized and presided over a “Town Hall” style setting for Realtors, lenders, appraisers, closing agents, title insurance staff and local leaders to work-through code issues. DeGroat has also given several presentations to the local board and state committees dealing with fair housing issues.”

“We will always have difficult times and situations to work through in the Real Estate industry and life in general,” said DeGroat.  “We all have a choice on how we respond to the tough times and for me the response is to remain focused on the positive and that way the future will always look bright and the glass always half full.”

Since 1992 DeGroat has been a licensed Realtor in Arkansas assisting buyers and sellers in and around White County.  He specializes in all types of residential real estate property sales.  DeGroat is an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and a Graduate, REALTOR Institute (GRI).

DeGroat is a member of the Searcy Board of Realtors, Arkansas Realtors Association and National Association of Realtors.  With the Searcy Board he is active on the Equal Opportunity Committee, Legislative Committee, Technology Committee and is the current Chairman of the Finance Committee.  In 2005 DeGroat was appointed by then Governor Mike Huckabee to the Arkansas Fair Housing Commission.  His term on the commission expired this year.
