CRYE-LEIKE, REALTORS ASSOCIATES IN GREEN HILLS HELP HOMELESS MEN AND WOMEN RECONNECT WITH THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH THE ?MORE THAN A TOY? (MTAT) PROJECT

GREEN HILLS, TN., – Crye-Leike, Realtors associates and employees at the company’s Green Hills branch office are supporting a holiday season “gifting” project designed to help young homeless men and women make a reconnection with their families.

 

“More Than A Toy is project to help young homeless men and women send gifts to family members who they’ve lost touch with,” said Mary Poor, an Affiliate Broker with Crye-Leike, Realtors in Green Hills.  “We’re thrilled to be able to support them in an effort to re-establish a relationship with their loved ones.”

 

MTAT is a holiday program sponsored by Room in the Inn, which recognizes homeless individuals who wish to reconnect with their loved ones. MTAT also recognizes that gifts are symbolic and include peace offerings and gestures of reconciliation as well as apologies or tokens of love.

 

According to Poor, the homeless people they’re assisting are young adults over 18 years old and into their early 20’s.  She says this age group is too old for foster homes and often ends up homeless or on the street.

 

MTAT gives homeless people who wish to participate the opportunity to earn points/vouchers through community service work. They can also earn points/vouchers while attending classes (drug, alcohol or education) that will assist them in getting back on their feet.

 

“With these vouchers, which represent a commitment on their part to overcome their situations, they’re able to shop for a gift for someone in their family with whom they have lost contact,” said Poor.  “The idea that our modest contribution might actually reconnect someone with their family for the holiday is absolutely remarkable.”

These people have missed family birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. Those who want to reconnect with loved ones are unable to afford a simple gift or peace offering.

 

All items donated are given a discounted value in the form of points/vouchers, which are then brought to a location, where they are displayed for purchase.
