2nd Annual Crye-Leike Charity Classic Golf Tournament to Benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

LITTLE ROCK, AR – Get your clubs ready for a swinging good time at the 2nd Annual Crye-Leike Charity Classic, benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, to be held Friday, October 6, 2006 at the Country Club of Arkansas in Maumelle.

“So many of our Crye-Leike team members are affected by Juvenile Diabetes that we knew this fundraising event would become an annual occurrence,” stated Co-Chairperson Tammie Del Donno of the Crye-Leike North Little Rock branch office.  “We are proud to sponsor this tournament not only as a way to help find a cure for diabetes, but as a way to give back to our community who has so generously supported us.”

Open to golfers of all skill levels, registration for the four-person scramble begins at 11:00 a.m., with a shotgun tee time of 12:30 p.m. and an awards presentation immediately following the tournament. There will be contests throughout the day including longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and hole-in-one on each par three.  And, thanks to the generosity of Gwatney Chevrolet, tournament participants will have a chance to win a truck or car with a hole-in-one on one of the par three’s. Lunch and evening hors d’oeuvres will be served, and each participant will receive a gift bag.  Players will be able to purchase mulligans for only $5.00 with a maximum of two per player.

“Due to the generosity of sponsors last year, we were able to donate 100% of the funds raised to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation,” added Co-chairperson and Crye-Leike North Little Rock Managing Broker David Goldstein.  “We hope to be able to do the same again this year.”  Last year, though the efforts of associates and staff, Crye-Leike successfully donated over $19,000 to JDRF, raising money though both the golf tournament and the annual Walk to Cure Diabetes.

JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease that strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump.  Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications that may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.

Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $900 million to diabetes research, including more than $98 million in FY2005.  In FY2005, the Foundation funded 500 centers, grants and fellowships in 19 countries.
