Crye-Leike Teams with American Red Cross to Hold Blood Drive

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.- Responding to the American Red Cross’ request for more blood, Crye-Leike, Realtors is holding its annual blood drive on Wednesday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brentwood West branch office, located at 5111 Maryland Way.

The public, as well as Crye-Leike employees, are encouraged to take part in the efforts to collect blood, and both first-time and regular donors are invited to participate. The American Red Cross is placing a mobile unit outside Crye-Leike’s headquarters to accommodate walk-up traffic, though donors are encouraged to set appointments ahead of time to avoid delays.

“The American Red Cross has issued a goal of 60 pints for our company, based on employee size,” said Crye-Leike sales associate Jim Heidenway, co-chairman of Crye-Leike’s blood drive. “We met that goal last year and would love to sail past it this year.”

To donate, you must not have given whole blood in the last 56 days, or if you have received notification from the Red Cross asking you not to donate. There is no upper age limit for donation, but you must be 17-years-old and at least 110 pounds. A mini-physical is given before each donation. Blood pressure, temperature, pulse and percentage of red blood cells are all checked. Questions about eligibility can be answered by calling 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. Eating a good meal about 90 minutes before donating is suggested.

“One in four people are ineligible to donate blood, and with a goal of 60 pints, that means that we will need at least 80 people signed up to meet that goal,” added Donna Sandstad, Crye-Leike sales associate and co-chair. “The only source of blood is generous people, and the Red Cross invites everyone to consider blood donation a public responsibility.”
