Crye-Leike Teams Up with American Red Cross to Replenish Blood Supply Shortage

Nashville, Tenn. – When the American Red Cross issued a plea to donate blood this summer to supplement the drastic drop in summer inventory, Crye-Leike in Nashville and Memphis heeded their call by organizing company blood drives between June and August.

Crye-Leike’s efforts proved worthwhile, collecting 124 pints of blood, reported officials from the American Red Cross. Crye-Leike offices in Middle Tennessee organized blood drives in Brentwood, Clarksville and Mt. Juliet.

“The American Red Cross tells us that one blood donation helps to save up to three lives. Crye-Leike is proud to say that we made a difference in saving 372 people’s lives,” said Joyce Friedman, public relations for Crye-Leike.

“The need for blood in America is tremendous, and donating blood is so simple,” she said. “The American Red Cross makes it very easy to donate by providing companies with simple directions to follow in organizing a corporate blood drive. The whole donor process is orchestrated in such a way that there are no interruptions during a normal business day and employees are provided the opportunity and convenience of donating blood while at work. We hope that other businesses will join us in holding similar blood drives in their place of business.”

If you are a business organizing a blood drive for the first time, the American Red Cross asks that the business identify a minimum of 45 volunteer blood donors before requesting a blood drive. The American Red Cross utilizes a mobile blood unit that is self contained and is parked in front of the business sponsoring the drive.

Only 5 percent of eligible Americans actually donate blood, reports the American Red Cross, and only 30 percent of first-time blood donors come back to give a second time.
