Crye-Leike Home Services Helps West Tennessee Storm Victims
Memphis, Tenn. – Without any warning, a thunderstorm of historic ferocity tore across the southern two-thirds of Memphis, Tenn., Shelby County just after dawn on Tues., July 22, 2003 that recorded 85-90 mph straight-line winds and left over 306,000 homes and businesses without power, leaving them paralyzed for days.
Yet, Crye-Leike, Realtors’ headquarters building remained unscathed and still with full power. Lucky for them because its Crye-Leike Home Services Division was able to save the day by immediately responding to the emergency needs of some its customers who were storm victims to the largest outage in the history of Memphis Light Gas & Water. The massive utility-restoration process conducted by MLGW is estimated to cost them over $30 million, twice the tab stemmed from the city’s 1994 ice storm.
“Within the first hour, we handled more than 30 emergency calls from our Home Services’ customers and another 75 calls before 12 noon,” says CF Moore, director of Crye-Leike Home Services, “and it escalated from there. Over the next three days after the storm, we handled 1,880 calls, a 79 percent increase in our daily activity; that’s an average of 626 calls a day, when a normal day is 350.”
Crye-Leike Home Services is a free concierge service that provides Crye-Leike home buyers and sellers personalized service, convenience and savings for all of the activities and transactions associated with the home ownership experience before, during and after the move. Its customer base is over 40,000, with 15,000 of those in the Greater Memphis area.
“With the influx of calls coming in that morning, our office realized that the needs of our customers required immediate attention,” says Moore. “So, we dispatched all our local vendors to put them on alert to honor our agreement to take care of our Crye-Leike customers first.”
“Customers of Crye-Leike Home Services were able to secure immediate access and service from any one of our vendors for any of their home repair needs ahead of any one else affected by the storm because they were members of Crye-Leike’s concierge program.”
Examples of services Crye-Leike Homes Services offers through its affiliation with national and local vendors includes: air conditioning, building supplies, carpentry, carpet cleaning, concrete/masonry, decks & patios, electrician, emergency restoration, fencing, handyman services, insurance, odor removal, plumbing, remodeling/renovation, roofing/repair, sheet rock/drywall, siding install/repair, trash/clean-up haul, tree cutting, and window & doors, to name a few.
In order for a vendor to join Crye-Leike Home Services’ referral network, they must be licensed and insured and maintain a 98 percent customer satisfaction rating, says Moore. “Additionally, their pricing structure is guaranteed. So, in this case, our customers who were storm victims, were protected from businesses taking advantage of this situation by gouging prices.”
Crye-Leike’s concierge program provides personalized service to its customers through a home services coordinator (HSC). Each Crye-Leike customer is assigned a specific HSC who develops and maintains a relationship with that customer. Whether buying, selling or maintaining a home, registered Crye-Leike customers receive personal, one-on-one assistance with their relocation and home service needs.
Crye-Leike’s home services coordinator works with the customer to schedule all moving related activities and engages them to handle everything from mortgage financing, home inspections and warranty services to purchasing appliances, assisting with utility connections and obtaining home care services such as remodeling, renovation and home repairs. Crye-Leike home service coordinators track the status and records of all customers’ purchases and measure the savings that result from using the program’s vendors.
To date, Crye-Leike Home Services has handled more than 32,000 service requests since the program was established in June 2001.
