The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)recently presented Crye-Leike the Above & Beyond Award on behalf of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and in recognition of Crye-Leike's outstanding service and continued support to the national defense. There to present the award from the ESGR Committee to Crye-Leike co-founders Harold Crye and Dick Leike, (center left and right) were ESGR volunteers: retired Colonel Otto Melsa (center) of the U.S. Marines and combat veteran of World War II; (left to right)Tom Brown, chairman of Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve - Memphis Chapter; George King, U.S. Marines combat veteran of the Korean War; Jim Brown, U.S. Marine combat veteran of the Korean War; and Lieutenant Colonels Ernest Spencer and Jim Montgomery, active members of the 164th Tennessee Air National Guard.

Memphis, Tenn. –  Crye-Leike, Realtors, the 10th largest real estate company in the nation, is the recipient of the Above & Beyond Award from the Tennessee Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). This state award is presented to employers who surpass the federal laws in their employment benefit practices concerning employees who serve in the military.

ESGR officials presented the award, on behalf of the men and women of the U.S Armed Forces, in recognition of Crye-Leike’s outstanding service and continued support to the national defense.

Crye-Leike currently has 54 sales associates and employees who are serving on active duty in the National Guard or have members of their family who are serving in the Armed Forces.

“We at Crye-Leike understand as the business partner of our sales associates who are independent contractors and the employer of our staff that our company is vital to enabling these individuals to serve our country,” said Chief Executive Officer Harold Crye. “Moreover, our active support and encouragement are keys to their success.”

Co-founders Crye, along with President Dick Leike, were presented the award at its quarterly meeting held July 9, 2003 in Memphis, Tenn. before a crowd of 1,200 Crye-Leike sales associates from its West Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida and Mississippi regions The award again will be presented at Crye-Leike’s quarterly meeting held in Nashville, Tenn. on July 15th where another 1,200 Crye-Leike sales associates will be in attendance who are from its Middle, Southeast and Northeast Tennessee and Kentucky regions.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve was established by the Department of Defense in 1972 to minimize interference between part-time military duties and full-time civilian career responsibilities. The law governing employment practices is The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA) of 1994.

“Many employers, such as Crye-Leike, go well beyond the USERRA requirements in a variety of ways: providing both financial and moral support to employees, dependents or families; making up the difference in pay between their civilian and military pay; and paying for extended pension or benefit plans,” said Ric Sitler, public affairs officer of the Tennessee Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
